What to Expect at Your Consultation Appointment:

The first step towards receiving Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), and Laser Therapy services is to schedule a consultation.

At your first visit, Dr. Barotz will review your pet’s medical history, western diagnostics, treatments, and diagnoses. She will then take a detailed western and TCVM medical history. Next, she will perform a full physical exam as well as a TCVM exam that includes tongue and pulse evaluation oriented towards achieving a TCVM pattern diagnosis. Based on that diagnosis, recommendations for acupuncture treatments and frequency, herbal therapy and/or laser therapy will be reviewed with you.

Because acupuncture, herbal medicine, and laser therapy all have similar indications, Dr. Barotz will often recommend a combination of multiple treatment modalities to address the problem. In most cases, the patient will be able to receive their first acupuncture and/or laser treatment at that session. We might also offer to take a video of your pet prior to the start of treatment and again at some subsequent treatments to help us objectively evaluate your pet's response. After the session, we will send an update to your regular veterinarian as we strive to work with them to provide your pet with the best possible quality of life.
